HowTo Deal with the "failed to reset device." Delay of Boot Sequence
As long I use my Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 11e I received a delay during boot sequence caused by the failure of reseting the device's touchscreen.
[ 460.844999] i2c_hid_acpi i2c-ITE8386:00: failed to reset device. [ 466.989109] i2c_hid_acpi i2c-ITE8386:00: failed to reset device. [ 473.133143] i2c_hid_acpi i2c-ITE8386:00: failed to reset device. [ 479.277162] i2c_hid_acpi i2c-ITE8386:00: failed to reset device. [ 480.301632] i2c_hid_acpi: probe of i2c-ITE8386:00 failed with error -61
That delay can be avoided by blacklisting the i2c_hid_acpi module in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf by adding the line
blacklist i2c_hid_acpi
and then
sudo update-initramfs -u
in a Terminal. After reboot - without any delay now - the touchscreen won't work. That can be fixed by
sudo modprobe i2c_hdi_acpi
in Terminal again or just automate that by giving root's crontab ( sudo crontab -e
) the following line:
@reboot /usr/sbin/modprobe i2c_hid_acpi
